Board Meeting Notes - January 5, 2004

The monthly Board Meeting was called to order around 7 or so by Past President, Grace McKay.

Members present: Grace McKay, Emmett Kesel, Gary Stone, Tina Wilson, Travis, Susan Wilcox, Beverley Turner, Robert Sheridan, Larry Goldsmith and John Primm.

Minutes – John Primm:  The minutes of the December meeting were accepted as posted on the web site.

Treasurer's Report – Beverley Turner:  The $1,000 “seed money” that was spent on the big holiday bash at the Galaxy Theater, (can you say LOUD?) will not be returned and therefore has been lost.  That was part of the deal if the event did not have the expected turnout.

Programming - John Coleman:  not present - see previous month.

Upcoming meetings include the “Shark Night” at PADA/DSAT in Rancho Santa Margarita on January 19.

Registration - Robert Sheridan:  no report – see previous month.

Membership - Emmett Kesel:  no report – see previous month.

PR - Susan Wilcox, Bill Ennis: no report – see previous month.

Communications - Tina Wilson: Will call all names on our various lists to encourage membership.  Reported that interest in joining MCA-I seems low.

Speaker's Bureau/Campus Liaison - Charlie Gibbs: not present - no report.

Website - Grace McKay, Travis: The web site needs to have a better directory element.  It was approved that a new software component of Mambo be purchased for $100.

New Business: Gary Stone announced that he has a box of video tapes and other items of historical (or would that be hysterical?) significance, that was generated over the years by our ITVA chapter.  Grace McKay also has some like items.  A discussion ensued about how nice it would be to commit all this data to DVD, but no specific plans were made.

A new policy was enacted: Effective immediately there will be a new general meeting fee for students with a student I.D.  A fee of only $5.00 will be charged.

Much discussion took place for the balance of the meeting about what kind of event we could put on that would help replenish our treasury.  While some wild and not too crazy ideas were shared by all in a very lively discussion (one of the best times I’ve had in long time), it was finally agreed that the best way to insure our future is to attract more members.

Some ideas kicked around were a seminar on how to make your own DVDs, a public event that would invite people with old tapes to order a DVD where a portion of the fee would be returned to MCA-I, putting people in a virtual marathon video involving a treadmill and a green screen where everyone comes in first, and a bake sale.

For those of us that have been members for a while, it is hard to imagine any professional group being more fun and beneficial than our own, so the best answers on how to increase our membership may need to come from outside of the board.  Therefore, please make any suggestions you may have to any of the board members.

Old Business:

The meeting never seemed to officially adjourn, as we were having so much fun, but the last of us left Marie Callendar’s around 9:30.
