There was dinner, pie, laughter and lively conversation at the MCAI monthly board meeting. Elections were held at the last general meeting, and the results are in.Our officers include President John Coleman, secretary Tina Wilson, and treasurer Emmett Kiesel. We welcome our newest board members at large: Omar Guzman, Matt Baeer and Rick Sherman. We also shared some other exciting news that evening at the July board meeting. All of the letters that were sent to KOCE proved successful. The Community College District board voted to support KOCE as a public station. The MCAI board received a very nice letter from the KOCE board, thanking MCAI members for their input.
John Coleman reminded everyone that our next MCA-I general meeting will be held at KOCE on July 19, and that it would be a good idea for us to begin promoting that. He mentioned needing volunteers for door prizes and advertising. Matt said he would be recording the podcast for that meeting. John Coleman congratulated John Primm for doing a great job with the Blast and with updating the web site. He also mentioned that the next thing we need to do is to have a link on the web site for the Media Alliance of Orange County. We all agreed that everyone who has their own web site should check to see if they have a link to the MCA-I on their site.
We discussed the T shirt fundraiser and agreed that the only way for this to be successful would be to have good sponsorship and interesting advertisers.
There was discussion about doing a membership video in order to tell people about the benefits of national membership. Travis felt that we need to establish for people the benefits of getting involved in the local organization, whether this be through email campaigns, posting a notice on Craigs List, getting mailing lists together and just getting the word out about what we do.
We discussed admission for non-members, and the board voted unanimously that starting with the July meeting, non-members would be charged $15 at the door, and there will be a $5 charge for students. Our board meetings are fun, informal, and all members are welcome.
