Board Meeting Notes - September 1, 2004

The September Board Meeting Notes are now online:

The monthly Board Meeting was called to order at 6:55 PM.  Members present: Dennis Backer, Grace McKay, Emmett Kessel, Gary Stone, Larry Goldsmith, Tina Wilson, Bill Ennis, Travis and John Primm.

The minutes of the August 4th meeting were reviewed and accepted. (Thank you, Beverly, for taking the minutes in my absence!)

Treasurer's Report - Beverly Turner: The August 18 mixer was attended by 40 people and took in $455.  The event cost $483.  Bill Ennis is going to edit a renewal notice letter that will be sent to all Associate Members.  The Dues for Associates will be $80 per year. The $80 dues will pay for Associate Membership from 10-1-2004 to 12-31-2005.

Programming - John Coleman: Please see the above article about the September meeting.  In October, the tentative subject is "How to Sell Programming to National Television," presented by a panel.  Grace McKay presented a list of suggestions for future meetings.  She hopes that every meeting can be a topic our members can't afford to miss.  Her list includes, Ray Wallich of Cinema Craft (a system that streams programs to a receiving box that you program) , SEO Guys, MAMBO, RITV, AKIMBO, DIY, Greg McGillvary, Cable Programming, Russ Carpenter (DP of "Titanic") and a meeting entitled, "Show Me The Money!"

Registration - Robert Sheridan:  Beverly Turner is making new tags for all members.

Membership - Emmett Kesel:  If you said something Emmett, I missed it!

PR - Susan Wilcox, Bill Ennis:  Will utilize Yellow Pages and Encore Directory to develop a larger mailing list.

Communications - Tine Wilson: She said she is always ready to call on people when she gets new names.

Speaker's Bureau/Campus Liaison - Charlie Gibbs: Dennis Backer to call and see how this plan is coming along.

Website - Grace McKay, Travis: We discussed what types of information our members would like to see about other members on the site.  Grace McKay is currently working on this site you are viewing.  The member directory will be transferred over to this site soon, and allow members to update their own information.  Grace and Dennis will be working on an ad campaign for the web site.  Outside vendors and members will be able to advertise on this site in the near future.

New Business:  MCA-I National is offering three $1,000 grants of outstanding programming.  A health insurance plan is being investigated.  The next national conference will be in Las Vegas in June of 2005.  The national web site is always looking for stories and articles.  A production form resource is online.

A swap meet is planned for October 31 - yes on Halloween!  It will be held at 30 Corporate Park in Irvine and will be organized by Larry Goldsmith.

The meeting adjourned at 8:34 PM.
