MCAI BOARD NOTES - JANUARY 2008

Tina Wilson opened the meeting a 6:55pm.

Minutes were not available in print and had not gotten to the website. There was discussion of getting minutes on the website which had been discussed before. Grace McKay will train secretary Erik Villesvik to put minutes and monthly meetings on the site by the end of the week.

The treasurer’s report was unavailable and would be sent by the end of the week. He was able to report that the Christmas Party broke even in terms of costs, the balance should be about the same.

There was major discussion of future meetings starting with a need for a location for the next meeting with Brad Zolinsky and 3D animation. Suggestions included The Buddy Group, Coast Media, Gerry Grant’s and a few others. 3D is donating $75 to our cause and door prize software. The February 20th meeting will be at the Santa Ana College Media Center with an Adobe Guy talking about After Effects software package. The March meeting will deal with viral marketing (U Tube, Blogs etc.) and taking advantage of these new tools.  Marcelo Lewin will speak and has 4th most watched on U-Tube in his category. The April program could be Pamela Peek—Rick Sherman will talk to her.

There was discussion of meeting at a studio or any more quiet place. There was agreement to try and meet at the Santa Ana Visual Media Center on Feb. 6th.

John Coleman asked for more articles for the website.

Tina Wilson brought up membership and suggested she would send out an email to committee members about getting together. She asked for any ideas and one general one suggested was more networking meetings to attract members. This led to the idea that it would add to a problem already in existence without the cheaper associate membership. Namely, that people would pay full price for the 4 or 5 meetings that they were interested in, rather than go for the $160.00 full membership. There followed a discussion of how to put more value in membership. Suggestions included more value on the website, having a networking event in May, working on better website linking. There was general sense of more dynamic change on the site. Also suggested were ½ hour workshops at general meetings. Wilson suggested focusing on workshops. There was consensus that we should shelf the April guest idea for now.

There was discussion of MeetUp.com and a MCAI meet up group. Also discussed was Gerry Grant’s place as a meeting place.

The membership committee will consist of: Tina Wilson, Bill Ennis, Beverly Turner, Gary Stone and Erik Villesvik.

The programming commitee consists of: Grace McKay, Tina Wilson, Dennis Backer, Bill Ennis and Larry Goldsmith.

The next meeting (Feb. 6th) will be at the Visual Media Center.

Meeting adjourned.
