MCAI BOARD NOTES - MARCH 2008

Meeting opened by President Tina Wilson.

Wilson noted that she and Rick Sherman went to McGarvin Middle School for career day.

Minutes approved. Motion Larry Goldsmith. Seconded by Bill Ennis.

Treasurer Emmet Kessel noted $600 at the door of the Adobe meeting. The national rebate check was about $900. The bank balance is $5700.

New Format

Wilson noted that we have been laid back and we’re looking to get more professional.  She thought Dennis Backer’s getting MCAI on the MeetUp page was going to snowball and with this success comes responsibility. She felt new people need to be welcomed. Dennis felt we should get all MCAI-OC members in the group. He suggested using the site to talk about MCAI. Comments on the site were very positive and .he discussed leaving comments and giving new people a shout or emailing people. He noted that RSVP is important and we already have 19 signed up for next time.

Bill Ennis noted that Gerry Grant’s promotion didn’t mention the cost of the meeting. There was discussion of door management and Wilson will help at the next meeting. There was agreement that the check-in table will be moved to keep control of people paying.

There was Agreement that business cards should be used instead of tickets for the drawing so we can have their information and speed up the process.

It was suggested to RSVP board meetings also and discussion of how to do this to one-point responding to sender, not the whole list. Use of link in email will work if everyone knows it’s there.

Discussion of who is Food sponsor--will talk to John Coleman.

Leadership meeting

Erik Villesvik reported on his attendance at the MCAI Leadership Conference in Dallas. He reported a bBig turnout of about  40 compared to 20+ last year. Villesvik passed around handouts such as: membership forms, the new brochure, Golden Reel application etc.

Villesvik noted the general trend of pushing for young members, working on high schools as well as college. This took the form of affiliations with high school clubs or helping to form adjunct clubs.. Discussion of if there would be dues or not, but rather being stepping stone to becoming regular members.

Villesvik was able to report that Associate membership is not dead as the national organization has no real controlling  authority. There was some agreement that a  temporary 1 yr. Associate followed by regular national membership was agreeable to all. There followed a discussion of promoting it at The Waters (1 yr. Associate membership). Discussion of local chapter getting all of associate membership vs. $45 coming back from national.

Villesvik passed out national budget and noted negative numbers for estimated budget would shrink when real numbers were acquired.

Pro Track will be in Anaheim Oct.30-Nov. 1.  Attendees will be  based at the Hyatt near Disney land. There was general discussion of our local chapter’s role. It was expected that Disneyland and the HD Expo that week would attract participants..

Villesvik noted that the MCAI website was promoted in regards to the personal profile page. It was pitched that filling it in and putting links to other networking sites would have big effect on your standing in search engines.

Finally, he noted talk of changing website master and layout and a logo change. There was some general agreement with website change but not much support for radical logo change.

Membership

Wilson stressed follow-up with new people. She felt that we didn’t want people to just show up at meetings. We need to generate members and try and get old members active. Backer noted how easy it is to email people at meetup.com.

There was discussion of introducing people at meetings. There was concern about the time element but we may just introduce members.

Other Topics

Discussion of how to shuffle people to possible Gary Stone party during Pro Track.

Discussion of making member info current on website.

Meeting adjourned.
