The November presentation at JVC covered both new HD product
from JVC and practical HD knowledge from a filmmaker. The presentation was well
attended and featured Adobe software worth over $1000.00 as a door prize. John
Coleman introduced MCAI to all and noted new faces in attendance.
President, Tina Wilson noted that it was great to be back at
JVC and John Coleman introduced JVC regional manager Steve Milli.
Milli started
by noting that there is not much HD out there and stressed content as the
important factor. Besides talking a bit about JVC cameras, his main topic
consisted of a few tips to HD production. First, he stressed knowing what format
was at the delivery end of things, particularly regarding progressive or
interlaced video and keeping conversion out of the process if possible because
it affects the quality of the picture. Secondly, he stressed the need for a
good lens because HD shows flaws, such as chromatic aberrations. And, lastly,
that focusing HD cameras can be tricky and using a monitor in all applications
is crucial.
Filmmaker, Jacob Rosenberg, spoke next about his experience.
He mentioned that he had just done a project with several formats to get to
1080p and that normally he tries to stay exclusively in 1080p.
He made a strong case for 24p frame rate. Rosenberg talked
about HDV versus other non-digital formats. Rosenberg also discussed a variety
of current cameras on the market, looking at their specs and comparing them. He
discussed the general importance and meaning of each spec in terms of what it
brings to your production. Rosenberg went through the latest Premiere HD edit
suites attributes and provided great hands-on presentation of how to work with
it.
Despite being a fairly lengthy presentation, all were riveted to
the nights presentation and left more HD savvy then when they arriv ed.
