I was relatively new to the field of independent production when I joined MCA-I and from day one this group has educated, supported and encouraged me. The experience and generosity of the board and other chapter members is worth its weight in gold. I can’t emphasize enough how much value being associated with MCA-I LA/OC has brought me personally. On top of that, I have made some great friends! I was a little awed when nominated to be chapter president in 2010 but was more than happy for the opportunity to give back.
During the past two years I have been fortunate to have served as president of our MCA-I chapter and came to appreciate even more just how lucky we are to have such a talented and dedicated board and generous membership. From programming the monthly meetings and the annual MediaProCamp to building and maintaining the website, all this is accomplished because of the folks who simply want to see all of us thrive in our field. The chapter board is always looking for ways to aid not only our own members but members of the wider media community. One great example of that is VO Peeps. We have joined with them to establish a charity scholarship fund that in only six months has given out awards valued at over $2,000! That is outstanding and we look forward to continued success with the Peeps! Now, as my time at the helm wraps, I leave the chapter in the more than capable hands of incoming president Brian Page. Brian, whose voice over work and acting is top notch, is someone you can count on to provide insight and leadership consistently. We are very fortunate to have him as the new chapter president and I wish him the best. I’m also pleased to say that Brian has a talented ‘bench’ backing him up, including for the first time in many years, a President Elect—Walter Davis. He has been a whirlwind of ideas and activity for the MCAI. When Brian’s term runs out the chapter will be in good hands with Walter. Thanks to all the members for your help and support during these past two years. But also to non-members who support our meetings and events. Your participation is important.I want to ask each of you to continue to spread the news of MCA-I and specifically our chapter. Encourage media professionals you meet to check us out and become a member. As I said earlier, the price of membership is far outweighed by the value it brings.
And I'll see you at the next meeting! -- MARK
For the second year, the Panasonic Solutions Company is making these iconic events possible. Starting on March 24th with the first event in San Diego, Panasonic is supporting media professionals with its involvement in MCA-I’s MediaProCamp. The popularity of the event has grown the series to a total of six this year.
Previously, Panasonic has given attendees sneak previews of new products such as the groundbreaking AG-3DP1, a 3D integrated twin-lens P2 HD shoulder-mount camcorder, and the Panasonic AG-AF100 featuring a large 4/3-inch, 16:9 MOS imager with an imaging area just slightly smaller than 35mm cinema film
